My passion for the art of “painting” with light

Hi! My name is Alena and I am a photographer who specializes in portrait photography. My passion for photography was born as a hobby about 10 years ago when I signed up for a digital photography course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Minsk, Belarus. At that moment I had a degree in foreign languages and 11-year experience as an English teacher. The course lasted one year and ended with the presentation of my portfolio and a photo project that was exhibited in the lobby of the “Belarus” cinema in Minsk. I chose to carry out a project that had a double value – an artistic and a sociological one. So I took a series of photographs in one of the Belarusian orphanages. You can find it in the “Sessions” section of my portfolio.

A few years ago I moved to Italy, leaving that part of my life behind, and I started studying the Italian language and culture. Over time I realized that my passion for photography had become even stronger and I decided to dedicate myself to it. In addition to portrait photography I have also got passionate about landscape and nature photography. In my personal blog on Instagram I tell stories of the “Bel Paese” - the poetical appellative for Italy first used by Dante and Petrarch, meaning the "Beautiful Country" in Italian" - through my photographs and my personal observations.

During the course I learned to use both natural and artificial light in order to create photographs and it was then that I realized I preferred “painting” with the help of sunlight, so I have chosen this path.
